HeÂ was naturally introduced to a white collar class Muslim family in the prevalently Sikh city of Ludhiana in British India.
Manto was ethnically a Kashmiri, and he was so pleased with being a Kashmiri that once he wrote to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru that being ‘wonderful’ was the equivalent word of being ‘Kashmiri’.
In 1933, at 21 years old, his life took a turn when he met Abdul Bari Alig (a researcher and questioning author) in Amritsar. It was Abdul Bari Alig who urged him to peruse French and Russian creators.
It was through contemplating the western writers that he took in the craft of short story composing, and in his mid 20s, he deciphered French, Russian and English stories into Urdu.
His first story was Sarguzasht-e-Aseer (A Prisoner’s Story), which was a Urdu interpretation of Victor Hugo’s The Last Day of a Condemned Man.
As a rule, Manto favored composition a whole story in one sitting. The majority of his subjects would in general be those on the edges of society.
While learning at the Aligarh Muslim University, Manto got related with Indian Progressive Writers’ Association (IPWA).
It was there at the Aligarh Muslim University that he composed his second story Inquilab Pasand,Â which was distributed in Aligarh magazine in March 1935.
In 1941, he joined the Urdu Service of All India Radio where he distributed more than 4 accumulations of radio plays-Aao, Manto Ke Drame, Janaze and Teen Moti Auraten.
Manto kept composition short stories like Dhuan, Manto Ke Afsane, and so forth.
In 1942, because of certain distinctions with the chief of the All India Radio, he found employment elsewhere and came back to Bombay, and again began working with the film business, which was his best stage in screenwriting giving movies like Shikari, Aatth Din, Mirza Ghalib and Chal Re Naujawan.
After the parcel of India in 1947, Manto moved to Pakistan in January 1948. At first, Manto had been inflexibly restricted to segment and had even wouldn’t go to the recently framed Pakistan. One night when he was drinking with his Hindu partners, one of them commented were it not for the reality they were companions, he would have slaughtered Manto. The following day, Manto chose to leave the nation and took his family to Lahore.
While in Lahore, Manto got related with a few conspicuous scholarly people including Nasir Kazmi, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi and Ahmad Rahi among others.
